Seminole and Wewoka Diabetes Prevention
.

July 1 through 4 at Wewoka Woods Adventist Center in Wewoka, Oklahoma, the Seminole Nation will be bringing their children to learn about diabetes prevention while attending summer camp.

The Seminole Nation, NEHI (Native Education Health Initiative), Native Ministries, and Wewoka Woods Adventist Center are all working together to help the children have a fun week while also teaching them how to prevent a disease that is having a terrible effect on the Native population.

In preparation for this event, Pam Grey from Seminole Nation, Bob Holbrook from Wewoka Woods, and Pastors James Bokovoy and Jim Landelius representing Native Ministries met together on June 8th.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how to integrate the traditional camp program of spiritual development and activities such as skiing, swimming, etc. with the Native needs of education about diabetes.

Meeting for an hour and a half, the parties put together a schedule and program that all feel will go far in meeting the mental, physical, and spiritual needs of the Seminole children coming to Wewoka Woods Adventist Center this year.
